Are You Ambidextroseous?

Posted on | November 17, 2005 at 1:59 pm | 2 Comments

During lunch today, one of my co-workers ordered a Diet Pepsi, saying that he was saving his daily non-diet drink allocation for an event tonight where he wanted to be drinking the fully sugared version. The rest of us all thought this was unusual – this switching between artificial sweeteners and sugar. As one of them said, once you’ve made the complete switch to diet, it’s hard to drink the regular version. Indeed, I drink diet only and the “naturally sweetened” variety tastes too sweet to me. And it’s hard for me to imagine anyone used to the non-diet kind drinking the diet stuff half the time, since it’s an acquired taste that’s hard to acquire unless you go cold turkey on the real stuff. But maybe I’m just imposing my own experiences on this situation, and that it doesn’t matter to most other people.

In case you haven’t realized it yet, this entire entry was just an excuse to make the pun in the title. I will not apologize.

Latre.

I think you’re mostly right – although there are some more specialist drinks – not just Coke, Pepsi, MegaHugeCo products, such as locally the Sprecher sodas – that I’ll drink the sugared version of once in a while – even though some of them have sugarfree alternative versions. But generally, yeah: I accidentally grabbed a regular Pepsi Lime instead of the diet variety the other day – I didn’t want to drink it, because I just thought it wouldn’t work with my being so used to the diet version. Gotta go – my ride’s here.
