Blizzard ‘06 Redux

Piles of snow down the road

As everyone probably knows, we in Colorado got hit with another big snowstorm less than a week after the end of the worst blizzard we’ve had in some number of years. Luckily, it wasn’t as bad as forecast and the second wave of this storm failed to materialize. That was a very good thing, because I was totally out of places to put the displaced snow when shoveling out the driveway and a path to the street. The area had yet to recover from the first storm, and the second one has just made driving worse. Oh, most of the main streets are mostly clear aside from one lane on each side being partially or completely unusable due to the huge mounds of displaced snow at the side of the road. The pavement, where visible, is mostly dry. But the side streets (and to a lesser extent, the parking lots, especially the entrances/exits) are still packed with ice and chunks of ice/snow, making it hard on one’s shock absorbers. There’s no street parking anywhere. At least this time the city actually plowed my street, although that had the effect of putting a giant ice wall in front of my driveway, undoing hours of earlier work.

We are so not used to this. Even with several days of sunshine and higher temperatures, this stuff isn’t going to go away quickly like it usually does. I just pray that we don’t get hit with another storm any time soon, so we’ll have time for everything to get back to normal.

And oh yeah, despite the storm, I had a great New Year. I hope you did too. Here’s to 2007!

Latre.

So how does this compare to ‘03, or for that matter, ‘86??

When life gives you lemons, make snow cones: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150075963257 (note that this is the SECOND round of sales…)

Whoops – I posted a link to the first auction, not the current (more lucrative) one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150076792981

The ‘03 storm was wetter and heavier, which was a big problem. I don’t remember enough about ‘86 to comment. Probably pretty close.
