I Don’t Like Cyber Mondays

Posted on | November 26, 2007 at 8:34 pm | 4 Comments

But I do like lasagna. But I’m only happy when it rains.

I didn’t take advantage of Cyber Monday, even though I’m kind of in the market for a cheap laptop. Like with Black Friday, I just really couldn’t handle the crowds. Oh, I did get onto Amazon.com for a little while, but after tussling with a little old lady over a cheap silk scarf for my girlfriend, I got disgusted and gave up. I refuse to be online transacted!

So, what’s next in the Holy Calendar of Holiday Consumerism, after Black Friday and Cyber Monday? Decorative Tuesday (get those outdoor Christmas lights up)? Addressing Wednesday (send out those Christmas cards)? Leftover Throwout Thursday? Just how many of these things can we get our holiday story-starved media to report on? Somehow I don’t think Drunken Saturday will catch on, but Football Sunday might. Jesus would be proud.

Please to note that the entire point of this post was to use the title (and to burn up another day (26!) of NaBloPoMo).

Jogged Today: Yes (@ 30°F)
Songs That Came Up On The iPod While Jogging:

  • “Sound Issues / Smart Ideas” (Thunderbirds Are Now!)
  • “Hannah, I Locked You Out” (The Caulfields)
  • “Hollywood” (Poster Children)
  • “One by One” (Mighty Lemon Drops)
  • “Egyptian Cream” (Robyn Hitchcock)
  • “On The Streets I Ran” (Morrissey)
  • “Hammer and Tongues” (Fretblanket)

Today’s Weight: 163 lbs
Lunch Yesterday: None. Although a late breakfast/brunch of Royal French Toast at the Mountain View Cafe could probably be considered an early lunch.
Pet Peeve of the Day: None. The beginning of the holiday season fills me with such joy that I can’t find anything wrong with the world.

Latre.

re: next shop-day: They call it “Boxing Day” here – December 26th – I don’t remember what it’s called in the U.S., but isn’t it the SECOND biggest shopping day of the year?

(please note the entire reason for this comment was to point out to the world at large that “mother-in-law” is the anagram of “Hitler Woman”)

The actual biggest shopping day of the year is reportedly the cleverly-named Super Saturday, the Sat. before Christmas, on account of we’re a bunch of lazy procrastinators who can’t actually be bothered to do all our Christmas shopping at 4:00 am the day after a huge meal.

“Lazy procrastinators”? I’d say it gives me hope that more Americans are sane than I would have thought that we don’t all line up in the farking cold outside a Best Buy at 3 in the morning to buy a damned Wii or whatever the hotshit toy du jour is this year. (I can’t remember the French for “year,” thus my temporally-challenged phrase there.)

Also: is there a more appropriate song title to encounter while out running than that Morrissey one?

Sheesh, I didn’t even notice that! Probably because I didn’t know the name of the song while it was playing.
