I Almost Bought Some Red Bull Last Night

Posted on | December 6, 2007 at 7:03 am | 4 Comments

Original Thai FlavorI’ve never had any Red Bull, and I saw some at Safeway last night, so I almost bought a 4-pack just to see what all the fuss is about. But damn, that crap’s expensive! Even on sale it was expensive. So the risk avoidance part of me won out and I passed it by.

I noticed they even had a sugar-free version. What’s the point of that?

Since I gave up coffee not too long ago because of the caffeine issues, it probably wouldn’t do me much good to get hooked on something with the same effects but which costs more. Not that I would expect to get hooked on it.

I’ve even successfully transitioned over to mostly caffeine-free diet pop. So, again, it wouldn’t be a good idea to get into another drink that’s loaded with the stuff. (The exception to my caffeine-free ways being when I’m dining out. Unfortunately, most restaurants don’t have the caffeine-free versions of diet cola.)

Caffeine. Man, that !@#$% will %$&#@ you up.

And I don’t want to get hooked on taurine or glucuronolactone, whatever the heck those are.

So, no Red Bull for me. Maybe if I was a young clubhopper or an all-night coder, but those days are long gone, and I suspect they were never really there at all.

I do still kind of want to try it though.

No, I don’t.

Yes, I do.

Why am I still tired?

What’s that spot on the wall and why is it moving?

Maybe I should try some Slusho.

Jogged Today: Yes (@ 38°F)
Songs That Came Up On The iPod While Jogging:

  • “Pale Horse” (John Vanderslice)
  • “Ocean Over Blue” (Bill Nelson)
  • “Polish” (Driver 8 )

Today’s Weight: 163 lbs
Lunch Yesterday: Combination #1 (chicken taco, bean burrito, cheese enchilada, rice, beans) at Old Santa Fe Express Mexican Grill.
Pet Peeve of the Day: The commute, again. There were two accidents on 6th Ave on my way home last night, both pretty major. I was late for my 6pm haircut appointment. I don’t mean to be callous – I hope no one was injured or killed. But there’s got to be something about the design of that highway that invites congestion and accidents.

Latre.

A guy here at work has a bottle of original Thai “Red Bull” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull about halfway down – except his bottle is squareish) It’s been on his desk for months and frankly no one has been tempted to try it…

Taurine and most of the other ingredients are just chemical cousins of caffeine but with more exotic-sounding names.

Taurine?! Only thing I know about taurine is that it is an essential ingredient in cat food, but that it makes dogs go blind.

This weekend, I finally saw the movie this reference came from. Not a terrible flick, but really a one-joke movie. If you like that joke, then it’s pretty funny.
