Vegetables. I'm still working on beets, though. Or not working on them, as the case may be.

Cancelled The Dead Zone?! Try sending bags of peanuts, worked for getting Jericho a second season.

Fellow USA Network SF show The 4400 has also been canceled, and fans are sending sunflower seeds to USA to get them to reconsider. It's a popular tactic.

I thank California for waking up my taste buds. Asparagus, artichokes, avocado, raw fish, and just about any authentic ethnic food...Mexican is not Taco Bell, and Chinese is not chop suey with crispy fried noodles. In N.C. maybe...not here!

I've always been pretty omniverous. You don't get a gut like mine by being too choosey about food ;D My only major turnabout has been on the fish food group. There are a number of types that have moved from the "choke it down" collumn to "not bad at all".

When growing up the only acceptable fish was fish sticks (saved by breading a deep frying, the universal antidote) and tuna fish in tuna salad sandwiches. I never liked canned tuna by itself. The great realization was that we always bought the cheapest cans; however, the white albacore tuna (which costs about three times as much) is actually good all by itself. Who would have thought.

Curiously, I've read that some of our taste preference changes over time has to do with desensitization of the taste buds. Things like strong cheese, "the fishy taste", bitter vegetables are just too strong for many people when they are young. As we age and our taste deteriorates along with the rest of our bodies, we can stand or even crave the kick of stronger flavors.

I started liking asparagus fairly recently. I think the trick is that it has to be cooked properly -- too mushy and it's just gross.

I didn't like pickles 'til I tried one from Jason's Deli (mmmm, I miss their sammiches) when I was in my early 30s.
And of course, marrying an Australian has forcibly exposed me to a lot of Asian food I'd previously ignored, some of which is pretty OK. But it's also put 50 lbs onto me, so these days the focus is less on foods I like and more on how little I can get away with putting away without being too hungry to go to sleep at night...
