Happy Day After SB Day

Today is my Diversity Day. The company I work for doles out one floating holiday a year, that each employee may take at any time during the year, and it doesn’t count against vacation time. This is presumedly so that Wiccans, for example, can celebrate some solstice that hasn’t been co-opted by the Christians for some other holiday. Are there any of those left?

Anyway, I always choose to take my Diversity Day as the Monday after the SuperBowl. I figure SuperBowl Sunday is the closest thing this country has to a universally celebrated secular holiday (I’m not sure how secular Thanksgiving, the 4th of July, and the various Monday holidays are), so I might as well make it official and take off the day after. I call it SuperBowl Recovery Day. And no, I don’t have a hangover this morning, but I do have a toothache for some reason. Haven’t had one of those in years…

According to the traffic reports on the news this morning, traffic was pretty light all over the city during rush hour with no major slowdowns. Somehow, I don’t think I’m the only one staying home today, though I’m sure most of the others just called in “sick”.

Speaking of the SuperBowl, my favorite commercial was the AmeriQuest one with the cat and spaghetti sauce. I liked the various careerbuilder.com ones with the monkeys too, probably because they struck too close to home. Overall, the selection was even worse than last year. Methinks the ad agencies have just given up. Or maybe it’s all been done before.

Time to play video games. Latre.
