My favorite CD of the year so far* is Mistakes We Knew We Were Making by Boston band The Information. It was recommended to me by mr. pathetic, who does indeed know what kinds of musical things I like. The tunes are bouncy and new-wavey, an uptempo combination of frantic vocals, guitars and synths, and continues a bit the trend of 80s revivalism we’ve been hearing lately. Although it sounds somewhat more modern than that to these ears. Some songs remind me a lot of Possum Dixon (whose New Sheets is one of my favorite albums of the late 90s), especially on the vocals. But The Information uses more analog synths than PD used. Of the songs from the album on the website, my favorite is A Simple Plan.

* – Okay, it’s pretty much the only 2005 CD I’ve bought so far this year, but I still like it a lot and I’m betting it will be a contender for the Top 15 at the end of the year.

I just bought a new PC last night, so guess what I’ll be doing this weekend…

Latre.
