And So It Ends…

My friend Bryce talked me into doing the Crazy Thing and seeing the midnight showing of this little movie called Star Wars Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith last night with him. So, I’m pretty much dragging today on only like 3.5 hours of sleep. I can’t really give this one a score on the Nod-o-Meter, since I was fairly… unfocused for the last hour of so as my brain tried desperately to return to Dreamland. I look forward to seeing the movie again (hopefully with digital projection) when I’m more aware of my surroundings.

Nevertheless, I did get a lot out of it and was generally able to follow everything. Here are some quickie impressions.

Pluses:
Much better than Ep 1 and Ep2.
Visually stunning. The CGI is a big step up even from Ep 2 – the amount of detail on the droids and such was exquisite. And the lava planet – wow!
Generally made sense and gave good closure to the whole saga.
Dark. I like dark. Some of the things Anakin did under influence of the Sith… whoa. Lots of violence and some quick gore.
Exciting action scenes that actually seem new.
No Ewoks. Very little Jar Jar.

Minuses:
Not a lot of surprises. The story went pretty much the way I thought it would. I felt that I didn’t really need to have avoided spoilers as much as I did.
Bad acting, especially by Hayden Christensen. I never really understood his angst. He seemed more irritated and petulant than angry and evil.
The usual atrocious dialog, especially in the romantic scenes. And since there’s a lot of dialog/exposition in this movie, that does drag it down.

I’m sad there will (supposedly) never be another SW movie, but at least they went out on something of a high note.

Latre.

There needs to be a word which means the opposite of “spoiler”, so that the above can represent its very definition…
