R U Ready To Crash?

Posted on | November 15, 2007 at 7:27 am | 3 Comments

As if I didn’t have enough to worry about, what with terrorists, rising health care costs, and bears. Now I have to watch out for teens text messaging while driving. The local media’s really been hyping this story lately, as it’s been featured on the TV news as well as in the newspaper. As one of the anchor guys jokingly said after the report, “I have enough trouble just trying to change CD’s while driving”. Amen, brother. Good thing today’s kids have been brought up in a multitasking world. They can drive, listen to their iPods, watch a DVD, follow the GPS, text message, and floss their teeth all at the same time. Oh, to be young and flexible again.

I especially like the “Tips for Teens”, which includes the following:

Recognize that text messaging can be a habit. Get support from your friends by letting them know you are working on breaking the texting habit.

Maybe I can milk this somehow and start a Texters Anonymous support group (with membership fees). “Have you ever missed a day of work because of texting?” “Has a loved one ever told you that you text too much?”

If you think you still will be tempted to text and drive, put your phone somewhere you can’t reach it, like the trunk.

That’s really convenient. Might as well throw it out the window, kids.

Jogged Today: Yes (@ 27°F)
Songs That Came Up On The iPod While Jogging:

  • “Bottle” (Rainer Maria)
  • “Shoot Freak” (Gay Dad)
  • “Bam Thwok” (The Pixies)
  • “You’re Not Supposed To” (Field Music)
  • “Apartment Story” (The National)
  • “Baby Dream in Cellophane” (Porcupine Tree)
  • “Another Souvenir” (The Connells)

(I was impressed at how flawlessly the new iPod nano video performed in the cold temps.)
Today’s Weight: 164.4 lbs
Lunch Yesterday: Combination R (Fish Taco, Chicken Enchilada, Rice & Beans) at Benny’s.
Pet Peeve of the Day: People who text message while driving.

Reminds me of my idea to have LCD TV screens on the airbags, so that your children can remain entertained whilst bleeding internally after the accident. Ambulances don’t show up as quick as they used to, after all – they gotta program the GPS first…

Just think what those poor crazy Amish are missing out on!

I’m surprised that the media is hyping this, you would think they would have hard-hitting news stories to cover like Brittney Spears taking a class on how to use a child seat.

BTW- Anonymous/12-Step groups don’t have membership fees. No money to be made there.

Lisa: Hey, who says Flasshe can’t be the first one to make a buck at a 12-step program? Anyway: maybe those damned kids should be made to realize that it’s actually possible to get through the day without yakking or texting away babble every damned five seconds. Yeesh. Oops – gotta go and tell Twitter that I’m picking my nose.
