The Roggies

I didn’t watch the Grammy Awards last night. I never watch the Grammy Awards. I’m not much for award shows in general. I find them to be a bit narcissistic or something – people in the biz congratulating each other. “Whose turn is it this year?” And in a lot of cases I don’t think they reflect what is good. The only awards shows I catch every year are the Academy Awards (because of the spectacle, and because I do think there is some modicum of reality to the nominees) and the MTV Movie Awards (because they’re funny).

As anyone who has perused my Best Albums of 2003 list can attest, I’m not really into what the populace or the recording industry is into. If the New Pornographers or someone like that actually got a nomination, then I’d watch. But I could really care less if Beyonce or Coldplay gets Record of the Year. I see that OutKast did well, but I think Hey Ya! should’ve won something more than “Best Urban/Alternative Performance”. Even when I think I’m in tune with the masses, I’m not.

Waiting for Feb 29th…

Latre.
