Feng Shui The Day Away

The great furniture swap of 2004 is finally done. Earlier in the week, Ray and the Hugh-Man picked up my old sofa sleeper, love seat, and recliner and found new homes for them, and then I had the carpets cleaned for the first time in years. Then the new sofa sleeper and love seat/double recliner (with amazing microfiber technology!) were delivered on Friday and installed in the living room (aka the Home Theater). Pictures and more follow…

(Forgive the fuzziness – my digital camera is old and it sucks.) The color of the furniture is a bit too close to the carpet for my tastes, though I didn’t realize it when I ordered it. If I had been properly listening to the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy guys, I should’ve gotten them in bright purple or something. Though I doubt they’d approve of the Home Theater-centric nature of the love seat. I’m not sure you can even call it a love seat, since it has that area in the middle with the hidden compartment for the remotes and the little built-in plastic tray for the beers. I took a few more digital pix: Here is one from the back looking toward the HT setup and lastly, here is one from the side, showing the recliners with the footrests out.
Since I got rid of the old recliner, the living room area is a lot more open in general now, and the acoustics are better without the left speaker and subwoofer being blocked. Hey, it could even be a dance floor!

Hopefully this will last me a while, as I don’t want to spend any more money on upgrades for a long time. After a weekend of experimentation, I think it’s going to work out fine. The recliners are comfy without being too sleep-inducing and the line of sight to the TV is good. The “line of hearing” for the 5.1 audio is also good, even though neither of the two love seat positions is directly in the center “sweet spot”. The backs of the recliners are not high enough to block the sound coming from the rear surrounds, so that worked out well. Not quite the ultimate bachelor pad, but it’s getting there.

Latre.

It is very beige. How about some colorful throw pillows for the sofa to liven things up?

It’s not beige – it’s "Almond"! I actually do have colorful throw pillows (even though like Steve on Coupling, I think they’re essentially useless), but I removed them before taking the pix.

The neutral tones will provide a good contrast to the models’ flesh tones.

It’s 4:17 PM, I’m really sleepy, and those sofas look so good to me right now. Beige, almond, whatever you want to call it, I’m there.

Paula, you’re welcome anytime. And you won’t even have to sing for your supper. Much.

And Patty, the only colorful picture I need on my wall is the Loud Family poster that’s already there!
