Waiting for the Fever to Break

Posted on | February 17, 2006 at 12:10 pm | 6 Comments

Many factors contributing to the lack of updates lately, loyal(?) readers. Still putting together my Best of 2005 mix, and I should be able to send it out in a couple of days. I got sidetracked. Been spending the last two days lounging around in bed or on the couch, staring up at the ceiling, and hoping this fever will break. It came on very suddenly Wednesday night, and I don’t think it’s a virus – probably some kind of infection. I was wracked with the most violent case of the chills I’ve ever had in my life. Joe Cocker in full-on performance mode had nothing on me. For awhile I thought I was going to literally shake myself to death.

But luckily that lasted for only an hour or two, and since then it’s just been restless resting, drinking fluids, trying to eat (no desire), occasional TV. My eyes are kinda messed up and so it’s hard to read/surf. Yes, being sick sucks. But I’m not mentioning it to whine in particular or extract pity, just to inform.

Back to the couch. Latre.

I’m the one who needs sympathy. The babboons at SBC have knocked out our DSL and phone service due to their total lack of higher brain functions rendering the incapable of understanding spoken English, while the insatiable thieves at Cingular have effectively tripled my prepaid cellphone airtime costs. I can only surf at work, and nothing involving passwords due to the laughable-to-nonexistant firewall – it’s not that I’m hooked on Email or anything, but I DO have an eBay auction running this week that I’d kinda like to be successful… oh yeah, and half the wife’s family is in the hospital, she’d kinda like to keep in touch… oh yeah, and… and…

    I’ll trade you.

    Hey Rog,

You OK? Your loyal readership is concerned and some of us are thinking the worst…

I can see the headlines now…

Reign of Frogs guitarist in life or death struggle with Bird Flu
DENVER, Colo. (AP) – Flasshe, guitarist with Colorado cult rock band Reign of Frogs, is hospitalized in serious condition with the first recorded American case of the bird flu.

Flasshe was bitten when a disoriented peacock, formerly opened by the late Woody Creek author Hunter S. Thompson, wandered onto Flasshe’s estate.

Flasshe apparently struggled with the bird for over 30 minutes before finally bludgeoning it to death with an old Stratocaster guitar. He became ill the next day and visiting friends from California called for medical help.

Authorities promise a full investigation into the incident and urge the public to remain calm.

Doctors are treating Flasshe with powerful antibiotics and regular playings of old Blue Oyster Cult albums. The next 24 hours are critical, but doctors expect him to recover. His liver is damaged, however, and he will be prohibited from drinking beer for the remainder of his life.

Thanks for the good thoughts and the laugh, Dan. Sorry I had to change the name to protect the not-so-innocent.

I’m beginning to think that I really do have the bird flu. Whatever it is, it’s kicking my ass. I had to cancel a vacation to North Carolina this weekend.
