Where DID My Summer Go?

Things that made me smile in the last week or so:

Horatio Sanz has been fired from Saturday Night Live. Hooray! No more “I’m Carol!”, surely the worst recurring SNL character ever. Oh good, Dane Cook is hosting the season opener. Yawn.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
. I’ve never watched Sports Night or West Wing, so I’m not familiar with the oeuvre of Aaron Sorkin. However, I’ll watch anything with Amanda Peet in it. Plus, most of the critics are going ga-ga over it. So I tuned in and liked what I saw. When it was over, I wanted to see the next episode right away – always a good sign. (Ray, I’m sorry for doubting you that the premiere was this week.)

Ed Helms on The Office. Psycho alert, Big Tuna! He ain’t no Dwight.

My 19-year old niece asking the family for a hookah for her birthday. Yeaaahhhhh…. She wrote, quote, “no it is not drugs, it is an islamic tradition”.

It's not what you thinkArchbishop Lobo in 52 Week 19. And Starfire wearing Buddy Baker’s shirt. Modesty from Starfire – what a concept!

Where Did My Summer Go? by the Baskervilles. (Thanks to the villain.)

Scrubs being shown on Comedy Central from the beginning. I only started watching with like the 4th season, so it’s cool to see the whole thing from the beginning. Hilarious stuff.

A new Tek Jansen adventure.

Things that made me scream:

Saying “We’re not violent” with violence.

My satellite receiver just died. Aaargh! I wonder if it will be fixed or if they’ll get me a new one in time for the Bronco game on Sunday night.

Latre.

Update: My satellite receiver is working again. When the Dish customer service people are useless, the good folk on the internet forums know what to do.

Scrubs was only really good for the first 3 seasons or so – after that, Alan Alda took over – metaphorically speaking – and it got all schmaltzy and (as the wife put it) “twee”… it’s still watchable but nothing we go outta our way to catch. I liked it better before Dr. Cox got emotions (although Christa Miller is a lot more fun to watch in Scrubs than she was in Drew Carey)

Anyhow, if you wonder where summer went, I can’t help you, it just turned spring here!

Hookah bars (and restaurants) are pretty trendy these days… I wouldn’t call it “an Islamic tradition” so much as a Middle Eastern one (there’s no religious connection so far as I know). But hey: she’s 19. (Whew. Almost accidentally used a Steely Dan title there. Wouldn’t want Becker & Fagen accusing me of stealing their ideas for comments in your blog!)

And she is correct about the non-drugness. Although one could, of course, also use it for drugness.

    I theorize, of course.
