Crash Into January

Be careful what you wish for…

I knew that if I complained long enough about having nothing to post about, something would happen. Well, it did. I had a very close encounter with a stopped RTD bus on a slippery road yesterday. The bus wasn’t damaged and luckily it had no passengers; the driver was on the way back to the station. Neither I or the bus driver was injured, and I had no passengers either. The policeman who investigated didn’t even give me a ticket. The RTD supervisor said it was the third one he had seen that day. In fact, there was another accident around five blocks or so down on the same street, and there was an ambulance at that one. I don’t think there was a bus involved though.

The airbag on the Prius did not deploy and it’s still somewhat drivable. But, oh boy, it doesn’t look good:

Crunch 1
Crunch 2
Crunch 3

So it’s back to the body shop for the Prius. The front bumper and the hood took the brunt of the impact. From what I can tell, the engine compartment wasn’t damaged. I can’t really open the hood to check. It seems to be driving okay and no warning lights are on. But I think I’m going to drop it off Monday at the auto body shop and get a rental, even if they can’t fit me in right away.

Jogged Today: No
Today’s Weight: 163.8 lbs
Lunch Yesterday: Cheesy Beefy Melt (or whatever it’s called) and a taco at Taco Bell.
Pet Peeve of the Day: Anti-lock brakes that lock.

Ouch! Sorry about your car. Hopefully, they’ll get it patched up like new. Everyone’s getting winter this year, huh?

Well, you could join me out here in the Soggy Northwest were it doesn’t really snow, and when it does — even an inch — the entire city shuts down. (I had six snow days last winter, that’s five more than I ever had in Minnesota.) Those of us who happen to be from places where an inch of snow is like a good frost just don’t drive here when it snows. Not that we can’t cope with the snow, its the amateurs that we have to share the road with that make things dangerous.

    But that’s only like four days a winter — so come join us — the water’s … ummm … warm… :-D

    I’m gonna cry. Poor Prius.

BTW – 72 degrees and sunny. Not quite shorts weather here, but pretty close.

Sorry to hear about the bonus round of chaos in your life. I’m having my own super sized portion of chaos myself (hence the tardy post).

Gregory, you show see the PNW on the rare occasions when it has a Denver sized blizzard. When I was growing up in Portland we had one storm that pretty much immobilized things for a week. Streets closed, power lines down, dogs and cats living together. Etc.

[It must be something about me, since I was in El Paso when it had a once in the century rain storm. Since they pretty much have no storm drains, the cars start floating pretty fast. Then I was in Albuquerque for camping when the skies opened wide, the arroyos filled and we escaped like rats. I am the rain (or snow) man!]
