It’s Not Over Now Just Because It’s Over

Immaculate Machine: Ones And ZerosAttention Magnetic Fields Fans: I’ve mentioned before the latest album by Immaculate Machine, Ones And Zeros. I’ve also mentioned how much I like it. It will most undoubtedly be on my Top 15 list for the year (probably in the top 5). But one thing I’ve never mentioned is how much one of the songs reminds me of the Magnetic Fields. See for yourself. Download and listen to the song Phone No from the band’s music page. Yeah, it’s mostly a vocal resemblance, as the male singer is singing in the same low register that Stephin Merritt usually sings in. But I think it goes beyond that a bit – the phrasing, lyrics, and music sound to me like the MFs also (though a bit more rocking). Tell me I’m wrong. Also dig the “owww ahhh” harmonies at the end. That’s some cool scratch, man.

NiMBY update: Kudos to the Lakewood Sentinel for joining in on the lambasting of the JeffCo and Golden governments for their handling of the Lookout Mountain Digital TV supertower mess, via this editorial. They join just about everyone else who doesn’t live on Lookout Mountain in asking “WTF?”. I also liked the letter in the Rocky Mountain News this week (go here and scroll down to the Rampant NIMBYism heading) where the writer totally echoes my sentiments. Yes, why the heck would anyone move to a transmission tower-infected area if they didn’t want to live next to transmission towers? It boggles the mind.

Latre.

Didn’t you see them Live in support of TNP? I did and thought they were great! Much better than Destroyer (who I had high hopes for…).

How does their live show compare to the CDs?

Oh yeah, I saw them live – see my original TNP concert post. I bought Ones and Zeros at the show because I liked their performance. The CD compared very favorably to the live show (which I loved), though of course there’s more energy live. But the CD lets you hear the nuances of the music more.
